Dr. David Heward, Optometrist

Dr. Heward has been offering quality eye care to over 26,000 patients in the South Portland, Maine area for nearly 35 years. He is a graduate of the University of Maine and the Massachusetts College of Optometry. He worked at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for two years before opening his practice in South Portland in 1977. Dr. Heward is appointed by Governors Angus King and John Baldacci to the State Board of Optometry which oversees the practice of optometry for the state of Maine. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, and the Maine Optometric Association. He has also served as a consultant for the Public Health Service and the United States Coast Guard. Dr. Heward is certified to use diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceutical agents and provides complete family eye care. Specialties include pre- and post-op Lasik and cataract surgery, difficult-to-fit contact lenses, ocular nutrition, dry eye, ocular allergies, diabetic retinopathy and treatment of other eye diseases. Dr. Heward lives with his wife Daniela, and their son Koby in Gorham, Maine with their 2 dogs Wiley Coyote, Faith Hope and their black Cat Buddy. They enjoy traveling throughout the country, attending the theater, and going to waterparks.
